PDA urges members to ask their MP to stop thousands of patients facing prescription charges

As a member of the prescription charges coalition, the PDA is encouraging members to request their MP sign a motion that opposes the proposal to introduce prescription charges for those aged between 60 and 66, in England.

A new report from NHS England suggests that some patients are being overprescribed prescription medicines which could be unnecessary and even harmful. The PDA welcomes this new focus but says that pharmacists must be enabled to deliver pharmaceutical care if the NHS is serious about addressing the issue of overprescribing.

NHS bonus payments to pharmacists

Questions have been asked in the Westminster Parliament about the government’s position on making a bonus payment to pharmacists in England in recognition of their contribution during the pandemic, as has been the case in the other parts of the UK.

England is only country not to issue pandemic recognition payment to NHS workers

As pharmacists and other NHS employees on Agenda for Change contracts assess the UK government’s 3% pay rate increase, the PDA is highlighting that England is the only home nation which is yet to give NHS workers a payment in respect of their contribution during the pandemic.

Self-isolation rules change for NHS and social care employees in England

Government finally announces NHS pay award

The Independent Pay Review Body (IPRB) recommendation to increase Agenda for Change pay rates by 3% backdated to 1 April is accepted in full by the UK government. The increase applies to NHS employees in England and is likely to be replicated by the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland and Wales.

Consultation and petition on proposal to introduce prescription charges for 60-65 year olds in England

The Westminster government is consulting on increasing the age at which individuals qualify for free prescriptions from 60 to 66 years old. The PDA will be responding to the consultation and are also sharing a petition against the proposal.

Help raise the profile of community pharmacy funding in England

The PDA support the 38 Degrees petition, created by the NPA, that calls on the Westminster government to recompense pharmacies for the extra costs they have incurred by staying open to provide health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The petition now has almost 100,000 signatures, but needs more to make sure politicians and the general public know about this issue.
