The PDA had been expecting to be able to update members working under Agenda for Change terms and conditions in the NHS in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on the Governments pay offer. However, its seems after briefing the media yesterday (20 July) on the precise details, the relevant Minister has failed to include any reference to pay in the statement made today to the House of Commons.

Paul Moloney, PDA Union National Officer said “This is unprecedented. It is clear the media, both print and broadcast, were given precise details of what was to be announced in advance, so we can only speculate that the reaction to the advance information has caused the Government to withdraw their statement on pay. It remains to be seen if this is because of a further rethink on their part of because they intend using the summer recess to ensure parliament will not be in a position to scrutinise the announcement when it is made.”

Media reports had suggested an announcement to increase pay by 1.5% and pay an additional 1.5% one off lump sum was to have been made.

Paul continued “Our members in the NHS, alongside all NHS employees outside of Scotland have been waiting since April to receive this increase. It goes without saying that this further delay is simply unacceptable whether caused by political maneuvering or a genuine rethink on the part of Government.”

The PDA Union will update members as soon as any announcement is made and will continue to call for the Government to end this delay as quickly as possible.
