PDA Reps talk communication skills at latest networking event

Earlier this month, the PDA hosted a virtual networking event for reps. The event focused on member consultation skills - communicating with others in the workplace or university to understand what they think and how they feel around specific issues.

Below is feedback from the event.

Behrad Soleimani, PDA Student Rep said, “I attended my first networking session as a PDA Student Rep. Let me begin by saying what a wonderful experience it was! As a first-year pharmacy student, I got the chance to meet my future colleagues from all different sectors. I was fascinated by how supportive the team was towards someone like me who is quite new to this role. We discussed different ways of bringing more people into the PDA and ways of effective communication. We also discussed why it is important for all our colleagues on this path to join us. To conclude, I would strongly advise you to join the PDA no matter where you are in your journey because I can assure you that you will be supported and there are plenty of opportunities for you to learn.”

Neera Goel, PDA West England and Wales Regional Committee Rep said, “Our reps networking event occurred online and after work, which made it inclusive for all. It was an informal event, which allowed reps of various stages of their career to share and discuss ideas to support each other. It was a safe space to talk, and useful resources were shared online during the event and via email afterward.”

Dominic Takhar, PDA Workplace Rep said, “The event provided a great platform to meet new people, share and receive support on common challenges, and foster a safe environment for open discussions. The union has great networks to join, these are super valuable as they allow us to be heard and listened to. Collaborating with others on these topics was extremely valuable, especially being a new union representative. I am eagerly looking forward to future meetings with reps to continue learning from their experiences. I highly recommend it to others in our field. Let’s strengthen our professional community by engaging in such valuable gatherings and supporting each other.”

PDA Reps are vital to the work of the PDA, members who are interested in getting involved and making a difference in the workplace, with employers, and in the pharmacy sector, are encouraged to get in touch with the PDA today by emailing organising@pda-union.org to become a PDA Rep.
