Manchester Pride is one of the UK’s leading LGBT+ charities. It is part of a global Pride movement celebrating LGBT+ equality and challenging discrimination and this year’s theme was ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer – A Hive of Progress’.
PDA LGBT+ Network members, allies, PDA staff, and representatives from the PDA’s charity partners, Pharmacist Support, were in attendance on the day.
Adam Somerville, locum pharmacist and PDA LGBT+ Network member said, “I am fortunate enough to have been to many Pride events over the years, but until this year, always as a spectator. Being able to march in the parade as a qualified pharmacist alongside other colleagues was very special. It was great to see such positive reactions towards pharmacists from those watching the parade and to be raising the profile of the profession. Celebrating equality and diversity alongside other NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations is where pharmacy belongs.”
Diana Chung, Volunteering Officer at Pharmacist Support said, “Kate Westbrook and I from Pharmacist Support were so proud to celebrate with our friends at the PDA LGBT+ Network and to represent our pharmacy family at Manchester Pride again this year! It was another incredible day filled with spectacular colour, dancing, and overwhelming support, as we paraded through the crowd-filled streets of Manchester. We expected ponchos and heavy rain but were greeted with blue skies and sunshine. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
