As part of the PDA’s commitment to supporting members, the PDA Education Summer School is returning for a third consecutive year and will cover a range of key skills needed in the pharmacy sector.

Taking into consideration member feedback from previous years, PDA Education has developed this year’s summer school programme to include brand new workshops and reintroduce previously popular courses.

Consisting of a variety of live events and online self-directed courses, the Summer School is accessible and caters to all PDA members. The programme will help members develop effective teamwork, understand how to be assertive, and more.

PDA Education first introduced its Summer School in 2022. Over the past two years, the courses and workshops have covered a range of topics to help members improve their skills at work.

Members who have previously taken part in the Summer School commented that the courses were “interactive and encouraged reflection and thought,” and contained “clear, concise content, easy to understand, and not too long.”

Another member said, “I liked the videos – engaging. The course was a good mix of reading written information and listening to/watching the videos.”

The 2024 Summer School will launch with a development workshop to help PDA Representatives and active members promote the PDA amongst their colleagues. Learn more about this session here.

Following this event, all members are invited to attend a live online workshop designed to help attendees understand the benefits of assertiveness and learn techniques for being assertive at work. Learn more about this event here.

As well as the live workshops, PDA members will be able to complete self-directed online courses at their own pace at a time that best suits them. The courses will be available to complete from Wednesday 14 August until Sunday 29 September.

The content includes:

  • Developing effective teamwork – This course will help participants to feel more confident when dealing with tricky situations, working with other people, and communicating.
  • Being a Mentor – Pharmacists can help advance their careers, develop their skills, and add value to their workplace by becoming a mentor. This course explores how to be an effective mentor and how to build strong relationships with mentees.
  • Being a Mentee – Being mentored can provide trainees and newly qualified pharmacists with extra professional and pastoral support. This course explains how to get the most out of being mentored, as well as the many benefits.

All the courses offer the opportunity to practise critical reflection and to monitor and review the development of skills and knowledge.

The PDA will continue to support members throughout their careers.
