PDA attends Aston University’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership showcase event

The Priory REACH research project looks at improving the uptake of existing health checks offered by community pharmacies which can help many people detect early on health risks or conditions that may not be otherwise identified through usual care. It aims to refine the combination of cardiovascular health checks that can be integrated with a vaccination service at Priory Community Pharmacy in Dudley and evaluate the feasibility of such a combined service

The event was attended by over 200 senior representatives from across the industry such as, Innovate UK (IUK), Aston University, and other strategic stakeholders. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the projects, the university’s growing KTP portfolio and the research excellence demonstrated by these collaborations. The event also gave Aston University’s academics, collaboration partners, and KTP associates the chance to network.

Aston University’s KTP projects are recognised for their exceptional quality, of which the Priory REACH project forms part of. Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor of Aston University said, “The impact our teams are making in their respective industries is truly remarkable and it is a testament to the thriving innovation ecosystem we are building here at Aston University”

Dr Jason Tang, Research Associate leading on Priory REACH said, “We are very excited looking at the opportunity of how extending and integrating existing community pharmacy health checks as part of a vaccination service could improve public uptake of such services and ultimately detect health risks that can be addressed with support from community pharmacy.”

Jay Badenhorst, PDA Director of Pharmacy said, “It is exciting to be working in partnership with Aston University and the Priory Pharmacy on this important project, which could support a drive to a more holistic approach to community pharmacy services, and the role that pharmacists are able to play in enhancing population health.”

PDA members may have an opportunity to get involved in Priory REACH research project in the future and the PDA will publish more information on this later.
