Lourette Latif Philips elected as the 50th President of NAWP

The PDA is pleased to announce that Lourette Latif Philips, a Community and Prison Locum Pharmacist, has been elected unopposed as the new President of the PDA NAWP (National Association of Women Pharmacists) Network.

Sat 31st August 2024 The PDA

Since graduating in 2005, Lourette has held various managerial positions, played a significant role in the Covid-19 vaccination clinics as a vaccinator and a pharmacy and clinic lead, and is now a locum pharmacist. She has been a PDA member since 2010 and has worked as a PDA Locum Rep for over two years.

Lourette will be the 50th President of NAWP since the organisation was originally founded in 1905, and the third since NAWP became part of the PDA.

Lourette said, “I joined the NAWP Network after becoming a PDA Rep. We discuss issues that shouldn’t but still affect women at work. We raise awareness by holding events, launching publications, and providing a safe space. As an Egyptian female pharmacist, I have had my fair share of sexual and racial harassment during my career. I have also supported other female colleagues through their difficult times. I am honoured to be the next president of the PDA NAWP Network 2024 – 2026 and look forward to carrying on the fantastic work my predecessors have achieved. Alongside the other committee members, I hope we can provide continued support and a voice for female pharmacists.”

Her new duties include planning and delivering a programme of activity, chairing virtual and in-person member meetings, representing the network at external meetings, and being a part of the PDA Equalities Council.

Ayah Abbass, who precedes Lourette as President of NAWP, will now be the new Immediate Past President. She said, “I have always been passionate about women’s health and feel like my role for NAWP guided me through this path. I’m so grateful to be part of a fantastic team that helps to empower and support each other. My two years as NAWP President have just been a dream – I loved every second of it, but I couldn’t have done it without the encouragement of the other committee members alongside me. NAWP is truly a sisterhood network and is much needed in the pharmacy world for women. The two years flew by and I’m so excited to work with our amazing new President in my new role as Immediate Past President. I can’t imagine my journey as a pharmacist without NAWP.”

Daniela Rusalim and Wye Bing Chan were both re-elected as Vice President and Honorary Secretary, respectively.

The PDA congratulates the successful candidates and thanks everyone who took part in the elections.
