NAWP is keen to help pharmacists and as a network we use our connections to provide support to our members.
For example, we know that balancing childcare or other caring responsibilities is a practical challenge faced disproportionately by women. This may lead to breaks in a pharmacists’ professional career.
If you have a particular difficulty affecting your return to work (e.g. current or recent caring duties for a relative; health or disability issues; low income), you might want to contact Pharmacist Support in Great Britain or PASS in Northern ireland. These charities help pharmacists, former pharmacists and their families. They can offer a large range of advice and support, including help finding out how you might be financially affected by returning, if you have been receiving any state financial support.
If you are having difficulty with an existing employer, or believe that a new employer is discriminating against you because you are a parent then the PDA Union, as the UK’s only independent trade union exclusively for pharmacists may be able to assist you if you are a member.
Alternatively you may find that, whether you are a male or female pharmacist, you need to reconnect with the profession. NAWP has a history of providing practical support in such circumstances and may be able to help you by providing an introduction to work opportunities with sympathetic employers in the UK via the NAWP network.
