Meet the NAWP committee

The NAWP committee was elected in August 2024, comprising of Lourette Latif Philips, Daniela Rusalim and Wye Bing Chan.

Lourette Latif Philips

Locum community/prison pharmacist, President of the PDA NAWP Network

Lourette is an Independent Prescriber and Community and Prison Locum Pharmacist. Since graduating in 2005, she has held various managerial positions and played a significant role in the Covid-19 vaccination clinics, first as a vaccinator and then as a pharmacy and clinic lead. Lourette has been a PDA Locum Rep since May 2022.

Throughout her time in the pharmacy industry, Lourette has witnessed and experienced misconduct in various situations. She aims to use her role as the President of NAWP to promote women’s equality in pharmacy and shine a brighter light on various women’s health issues.

Lourette said,  “I joined the NAWP Network after becoming a PDA Rep. We discuss issues that shouldn’t but still affect women at work. We raise awareness by holding events, launching publications, and providing a safe space.

As an Egyptian female pharmacist, I have had my fair share of sexual and racial harassment during my career. I have also supported other female colleagues through their difficult times. I am honoured to be the next president of the PDA NAWP Network 2024 – 2026 and look forward to carrying on the fantastic work my predecessors have achieved. Alongside the other committee members, I hope we can provide continued support and a voice for female pharmacists.”

Daniela Rusalim

Pharmacist advanced practitioner, Vice-President of the PDA NAWP Network

Daniela is a pharmacist advanced practitioner and an independent prescriber with more than two decades of experience in community pharmacy, primary, and secondary care. Daniela has been trained as a representative by the PDA Union for Boots in the East of England region and is also an active member of the Equal Pay Joint Working Party.

Daniela said, “I am absolutely delighted to continue my role as the Vice-President of the National Association of Women Pharmacists and support initiatives that benefit and motivate our members. I am so pleased that the influence of NAWP is growing and that we have such talented women on the committee, both elected and co-opted members.”

Wye Bing Chan

Clinical Pharmacist, Honorary Secretary of the PDA NAWP Network

Wye Bing was a PDA Representative in her previous hospital role and now works as a Clinical Pharmacist in a community trust. She is new to the committee and joined NAWP to understand the barriers preventing women pharmacists from thriving.

Wye Bing said, “Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve the network. I hope to work closely with the committee to raise the profile of women pharmacists.”

Ayah Abbass

Community/GP pharmacist, Immediate Past President of the PDA NAWP Network

Ayah is the manager at a community pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist at a GP surgery with an independent prescribing qualification. By working through different sectors such as hospital, community, and primary care as well as locuming, Ayah has experienced various issues that can have an impact on pharmacists.

Ayah said, “I have always been passionate about women’s health and feel like my role for NAWP guided me through this path. I’m so grateful to be part of a fantastic team that helps to empower and support each other. My two years as NAWP President has just been a dream – I loved every second of it, but I couldn’t have done it without the encouragement of the other committee members alongside me. NAWP is truly a sisterhood network and is much needed in the pharmacy world for women. The two years flew by and I’m so excited to work with our amazing new President in my new role as Immediate Past President. I can’t imagine my journey as a pharmacist without NAWP.”

Naina Chotai

Community and locum pharmacist, co-opted member of the PDA NAWP Network

Naina is a pharmacist who also runs a consultancy that provides professional support to independent pharmacist-owners in London and the South East. Naina has been a member of the PDA since 2010.

Naina said, “Congratulations and welcome to the new NAWP committee. I’m so proud to hand over to the newly elected committee. Guided by experienced past Presidents, NAWP will continue to add value to our women pharmacists and provide support in this challenging  environment for the profession.”

Okereke Oluomachi Yvonne

Clinical and community pharmacist, co-opted member of the PDA NAWP Network

As a dedicated and passionate pharmacist with a robust background in clinical and community settings across West Africa and the UK, Yvonne has consistently pursued excellence in patient care and pharmaceutical services in her years of practice. Her journey in pharmacy, from her academic background to her diverse professional experiences, has equipped Yvonne with a deep understanding of pharmacists’ vital role in safeguarding public health.

Yvonne’s involvement in the PDA stems from her commitment to upholding pharmacists’ rights and professional integrity. Every pharmacist deserves a fair and just working environment, and Yvonne is particularly passionate about advocating for equality within the profession by promoting equal opportunities and ensuring that all pharmacists, regardless of their background, are supported and empowered. Her goal is to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system by participating in and supporting the PDA’s objectives, which closely align with her professional and personal values.

Nicola Rees

Community pharmacist and co-opted member of the PDA NAWP Network

Nicola has been a community pharmacist for over 20 years and a member of the PDA Union since 2012. Nicola is part of the PDA Reps Network in Boots and is an active NAWP member and has been involved in building links with the European Women Pharmacists Meeting (EWPM).
