The PDA recently set out its position on the change to legislation allowing pharmacists to sign fit notes in an article on 16 June 2022. Subsequently, members working in general practice have queried whether they should start signing fit notes.

Improving care and reducing variation of cardiovascular disease

Primary care pharmacist in Glasgow and member of the PDA Union Scotland and Northern Ireland Regional Committee, Iain Speirits has a split role working as a general practice pharmacist and in cardiology, supporting heart failure and post-MI patients. Here, Iain describes his role and the steps he takes to improve care and reduce variation in an area with the highest cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality rate in the United Kingdom.

PDA responds to the Department of Health and Social Care consultation ‘Hub and spoke dispensing’

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) recently consulted on its proposals for ‘Hub and spoke dispensing.’ This is the second attempt by the DHSC to consult on proposed changes to the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and The Medicines Act 1968 to facilitate hub and spoke dispensing between parties that belong to separate legal entities.

PDA contributes to the STUC’s ‘Mon the Worker’s book launch

On 15 June 2022, the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) launched a memorial book titled ‘Mon the worker’s. The author of the book Daniel Gray invited PDA National Officer for Scotland, Paul Flynn to be part of a panel of contributors to the book.

LloydsPharmacy member meeting held to celebrate one year on

The PDA Reps Network in LloydsPharmacy hosted a member meeting in June which celebrated over a year since the PDA gained recognition with the employer. Attendees were given an overview of the work undertaken and the successes achieved by the reps on behalf of members during this first year.
