Positivity and possibilities: how PDA Reps are changing pharmacy for the better

All PDA Reps roles are voluntary, and the members who become workplace reps, health and safety reps, trainee reps, and student reps play a vital role in the work of the PDA. They ensure that more pharmacists are aware of what the PDA is and what it does, that PDA members know what support and advice is available, and they also help support members directly within their workplaces.

Thu 16th March 2023 The PDA

Members become PDA Reps for many reasons but, when surveyed, the reps told the PDA that the number one reason was wanting to support fellow pharmacists.

One PDA Rep said, “I wanted to empower my fellow pharmacists to voice their collective views on important issues affecting them. I wanted to represent members and work together with my employers to improve my peers’ working lives. I feel that being a rep has given me many opportunities to engage with my colleagues and to bring member feeling forward to the company.”

Here are a few other reasons members gave as to why they chose to become a PDA Rep:

  • To ensure that pharmacy is represented in the management of change for the organisation.
  • To help distribute the support that PDA gives to students and to be able to educate other students about the PDA.
  • To help colleagues who struggle with pressures being put on them by employers.
  • To ensure newer pharmacists have a voice within the employer and the PDA.
  • Access to a platform to speak out on issues that matter to pharmacists.

Whatever the reason for volunteering, the PDA is proud of all its reps for making a positive impact on the lives of pharmacists, their colleagues, and patients.

As part of its month of celebrating reps, the PDA is hosting an online event later this month where members can meet some of our reps, learn what being a PDA Rep means, and hear about the work they are doing to make pharmacy a better place to work. At this informative session, PDA Organiser Jayne Love will be chairing a panel of PDA Reps, who will answer questions about their experiences. Attendees will also be able to find out how to become a PDA Rep.
