Liam Volk, President of the LGBT+ Network said, “Manchester Pride didn’t disappoint and it was truly an honour to march under the PDA banner with such a lovely group of people. Pride is vital for the LGBT+ community, both as an act to protest our mistreatment and to celebrate how far we’ve come so, it’s great to see the PDA is taking it seriously. I’m already excited for next year, and will use the interim time to plan my outfit better!”
Paul Day, PDA Director said, “This was my first Pride event and it was a really positive experience as the PDA joined hundreds of other organisations to show our support for LGBT+ members of the community. At the roadside, people of all ages were cheering us on throughout Manchester’s city centre. I encourage members of the PDA LGBT+ Pharmacists’ Network and other PDA members who are supportive allies to come along next year too.”
Cathryn Brown, Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at UCLan and community pharmacy locum said, “It was great to be at Pride again this year and although the weather looked changeable, the sun shone on us as we walked through the centre of Manchester together. We were a bigger group this year, which was excellent, and people cheered for us as we went by with our PDA banners. Come and join us next year and celebrate humanity in all its diversity!”
A representative from the PDA’s charity partners, Pharmacist Support, the profession’s independent charity, also joined the PDA LGBT+ Network in the Parade. Diana Chung, Volunteering Officer at Pharmacist Support said, “What a fantastic day to be a part of! The feeling of support we experienced as we walked in the parade was overwhelming. We were proud to be able to celebrate with our friends from the PDA LGBT+ Network and to represent our pharmacy family. We can’t wait till next year and the years after that!”
