Displaying pronouns is an excellent way to embrace inclusivity and reinforce a culture of respect and acceptance. The PDA LGBT+ Network have already produced pronoun badges available to PDA members and welcome the news that pharmacists in LloydsPharmacy are now able to order badges featuring their pronouns from the company.

Colleagues in LloydsPharmacy and the wider McKesson UK business can now order their new customised name badges and select their pronouns on the ordering system.

LloydsPharmacy say that they want colleagues to feel comfortable in their daily interactions with customers and colleagues and not have assumptions being made about their gender. This will particularly support LGBT+ pharmacists, colleagues, and patients. It is critical that individuals are empowered to be their true selves in all settings and pharmacy team members who are LGBT+ allies can show their support by normalising the sharing of pronouns via the new name badges.

PDA LGBT+ Network members raised concerns about the initially limited options of pronouns, and this was put forward to the McKesson LGBTQ+ Inclusion Group. The PDA LGBT+ Network Committee are happy to report that LloydsPharmacy has acknowledged the concerns and are very eager to expand the pronoun options to a wider selection. The PDA LGBT+ Network have advised on the pronoun options to include to help LloydsPharmacy be even more inclusive. McKesson’s LGBTQ+ Inclusion Group are currently liaising with their Operations Team to quickly deliver those additional options.

LloydsPharmacy are also encouraging colleagues to add their personal pronouns to email signatures. Joe Scholes, Senior Communications Manager at McKesson UK said, “It’s a really important topic and part of our broader mission to become a truly inclusive employer. This month, we’ve been highlighting pride and showcasing stories from colleagues who are part of our LGBTQ+ Network Group, designed to raise awareness and understanding across the business.”

Scott Rutherford, President of the PDA LGBT+ Network said, “We welcome the introduction of pronouns to the name badges of LloydsPharmacy employees, as this creates a safe space for patients and staff. It helps customers and patients feel comfortable and confident to reach out to colleagues.

Displaying your pronouns is a simple act of allyship which normalises conversations around gender identity, creating a more welcoming environment for members of the LGBT+ community. We would like to see other pharmacy employers follow the example of LloydsPharmacy to deliver changes that improve Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in all pharmacy workplaces.”

The PDA LGBT+ Network champion the usage of pronoun badges and proactively encourages people to display them. The PDA praises great practice on equality and urges other pharmacy employers to follow this example by LloydsPharmacy.
