The select committee inquiry into pharmacy is exploring issues impacting different types of pharmacy, with a particular focus on community, primary care and hospital pharmacy services.
When the inquiry was launched the committee said: “During a time of change and reorganisation across the health and care system, and following upheaval driven by the Covid-19 pandemic, the inquiry will assess the current status of pharmacy in England and consider what the future of pharmacy could look like. The inquiry will focus on addressing current challenges, particularly around the funding model, digital infrastructure and workforce recruitment, training and retention. Looking to the future, the inquiry will consider what innovations could have the biggest impact and what action needs to be taken now to ensure the potential of pharmacy is realised.”
The PDA’s written submission to the inquiry is available on the select committee’s website and Mark will be responding to any questions asked by those members of Parliament that form the committee.
Pharmacists sharing their views and experiences helps the PDA to tell their story and represent their interests. For example, the PDA workforce survey ran last month (December 2023) to help inform this important debate throughout 2024. Pharmacists across the UK were asked to provide greater information about why they choose to work in certain roles and would not consider others.
The select committee session can be viewed live here from 10 am. Mark Koziol is due to speak at approximately 10.50 am.
