PDA event on NHS re-banding: NHS hospital pharmacists come together to talk about ways to improve pay

Over 40 PDA members, NHS hospital pharmacists from across the UK, met with union officers on Tuesday 31 January to discuss how to apply for re-banding.

The PDA’s survey for members working in hospitals, published in Autumn 2022, showed that many pharmacists are unhappy with the band that they were on and were carrying out duties beyond their current pay grade.

In response to this, the PDA held the re-banding event. Paul Moloney, PDA National Officer, who leads Agenda for Change negotiations, guided members through the process, and Tasnim Khan, PDA Policy Officer, discussed the findings of the survey.

Paul Moloney said, “NHS pharmacists on Agenda for Change may be able to improve their pay by using the job evaluation process open to all in the NHS. The PDA believes many members may be working at a level higher than their current pay band and this guide sets out how this can be challenged using the agreed procedures.”

This was the first event exclusively for NHS pharmacist members run by the PDA.
