Congratulations to the newly elected committee!
Ayah Abbass
Community/GP pharmacist, President of the PDA NAWP Network
Ayah is the manager at a community pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist at a GP surgery with an independent prescribing qualification. By working through different sectors such as hospital, community, and primary care as well as locuming, Ayah has experienced various issues that can have an impact on pharmacists.
Ayah said, “I am so honoured to be elected to the role of President of the NAWP Network. I remember feeling lost as a female pharmacist facing challenges from the public regarding my role, then I came across NAWP through attending one of their International Women’s Day events and felt so empowered and inspired. To be elected as President for 2022 – 2024 feels so surreal and I am looking forward to my new role. We will be working together as a committee to ensure women’s voices are heard loud and clear in the pharmacy world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Naina Chotai for all the incredible work she achieved during her presidency from 2020 – 2022. I look forward to carrying on with NAWP’s work to achieve equality. My focus is to ensure female pharmacists are working in an environment where they feel safe and empowered – let’s educate and encourage each other to achieve our full potential!”
Daniela Rusalim
Community pharmacist, Vice-President of the PDA NAWP Network
Daniela is a pharmacist advanced practitioner and an independent prescriber with more than a decade of experience in community pharmacy. Daniela has been trained as a representative by the union for Boots in the East of England region and is also an active member of the Equal Pay Joint Working Party.
Daniela said, “I am glad to have been re-elected and will continue to support, speak up for, and represent all women pharmacists.”
Wye Bing Chan
Primary Care Network Pharmacist, Honorary Secretary of the PDA NAWP Network
Wye Bing was a PDA Representative in her previous hospital role and now works within a Primary Care Network. She is new to the committee and joined NAWP to understand the barriers preventing women pharmacists from thriving.
Wye Bing said, “Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve the Network. I hope to work closely with the committee to raise the profile of women pharmacists.”
Naina Chotai
Community and locum pharmacist, Immediate Past President of the PDA NAWP Network
Naina is a pharmacist who also runs a consultancy that provides professional support to independent pharmacist-owners in London and the South East. Naina has been a member of the PDA since 2010.
The PDA is delighted that Naina Chotai will continue on the committee as the first official Immediate Past President. Naina said, “I am honoured to continue to work with the PDA NAWP Network’s committee as Immediate Past President. The new committee brings a fresh perspective to NAWP’s workstreams and will drive NAWP’s agenda through their passion for all women pharmacists to realise their full potential.”
Since NAWP became part of the PDA in 2020, they have done much to raise the profile of women pharmacists. They have hosted events such as the International Women’s Day events and panel sessions around Women in Pharmacy at the Pharmacy Show and CPC. The network has also produced regular newsletters, factsheets such as ovarian cancer and endometriosis as well as building on links with the European Women Pharmacists Meeting (EWPM).
The PDA would like to thank the previous committee for their time, hard work, and commitment to NAWP as well as their care for NAWP members and the wider PDA membership.
