PDA sessions
Standing Up for Sitting Down
Business Theatre, Sunday 13 October, 10.20 am – 10.50 am
In this session, PDA Organiser, Liz Larkin will be giving an overview of the ‘Standing Up for Sitting Down’ campaign, revealing shocking results from a recent survey and highlighting some of the good practices in the profession. The campaign was created by the PDA Ability Network following a survey that found that many pharmacists were not being provided with the reasonable adjustments that they required. The campaign aims to raise awareness of disability discrimination and calls on employers to make appropriate and ongoing reasonable adjustments. The session will be supported by members of the PDA Ability Network.
PDA Safer Pharmacies Charter
Business Theatre, Monday 14 October, 9.35 am – 10.05 am
In this session, PDA Director of Pharmacy, Jay Badenhorst will give an update on the PDA’s longstanding campaign to improve safety and care for patients and the working lives of pharmacists. As part of the campaign, it was recently announced that the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has become the latest organisation to support the Safer Pharmacies Charter which defines basic standards to ensure safe practice wherever pharmacists work. Jay will also reveal exclusive findings from the PDA’s eighth annual Safer Pharmacies Survey.
Jay commented, “The Pharmacy Show is a great opportunity for us to deliver findings from our latest Safer Pharmacies Survey and discuss the next steps in our campaign to improve safety and care for patients, through better working conditions in UK pharmacy practice.”
“The campaign has seen many successes, but we have a long way to go as a profession to make all pharmacies safe. We urge pharmacy employers to sign the Safer Pharmacies Charter if they haven’t done so already to demonstrate their commitment to safer pharmacies. Pharmacists can also add their voices to the campaign on our website.”
