Over the last 4 months the bodies in pharmacy have been working together in an unprecedented way to try and deliver a solution to the problem of the criminalisation of dispensing errors. On Tuesday 13th of March an important debate was held in the Houses of Parliament on this matter.

PDA Union seeks formal recognition from Alliance Boots

In a historic development the PDA Union has applied to Alliance Boots for formal recognition as the trade union for pharmacists within the company. If successful, this would allow the PDA Union to act on behalf of its Boots employee members in consultation and negotiations over terms and conditions.

PDA Union awarded Certificate of Independence

The Trade Union Certification Officer has confirmed that the PDA Union had been successful in its application under section 6 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 for a certificate of independence.

Medicines’ Legislation Review; PDA wants removal of Section 64 of Medicines Act

PDA tells MHRA that the current Section 64.1 of the Medicines Act is not 'fit for purpose' and was never intended to prosecute pharmacists for unintentional dispensing errors. It submits that it should be removed altogether when legislation is reviewed.
