PDA secures over £100,000 in unpaid locum fees for members so far this year

Over the years, the PDA has secured hundreds of thousands of pounds of outstanding locum fees for members, but 2023 has surpassed all previous levels with six figures recovered in just the first ten months for the first time.

Pharmacist racially harassed by pharmacy team members – UPDATED WITH FULL TRIBUNAL JUDGMENT

Following a 5-day hearing earlier this year, an Employment Tribunal has upheld 7 allegations of harassment related to race occurring during a shift on 18 July 2020 in a claim issued against Boots and one of its pharmacy technicians. The Tribunal concluded that the treatment of the pharmacist by the pharmacy technician, a pharmacy advisor and the store manager was significantly influenced by (and therefore related to) the pharmacist’s race.

The use of umbrella companies within the healthcare sector

Umbrella companies employ individuals on behalf of employment businesses, often referred to as recruitment agencies, who are then supplied to end clients. They have a significant impact on those they employ but, are largely unregulated. An experienced hospital and locum pharmacist has shared their concerns about the impact of NHS trusts choosing to use umbrella companies to engage locums.
