How to thrive in the foundation training year

On Tuesday 2 July, PDA Education hosted an online event for fourth-year pharmacy students who will soon be starting their trainee year called ‘how to thrive in your trainee year’. The event focused on helping fourth-year students prepare for the year ahead and the run-up to the registration assessment.

PDA NAWP Network launches Spotlight on Periods

The latest NAWP Spotlight, ‘Period Matters’ aims to raise awareness of the impact that periods can have, both physically and mentally, on women in the workplace.

P medicines for self-selection, are you concerned?

In 2012, the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) and some other organisations successfully fought to reject proposals which would allow Pharmacy (P) medicines to be available for self-selection from open displays in community pharmacies, alongside general sale list (GSL) medicines and even non-medicinal items.

PDA calls on the new government to support an NHS that is fit for all

The NHS turns 76 today, which also coincides with the announcement of the results of the general election. To mark the day, the PDA is asking the incoming government to invest in and reform the NHS to enhance patient care.

PDA attends Aston University’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership showcase event

The PDA, in collaboration with the Priory Community Pharmacy, attended an event on Wednesday 12 June 2024 at Aston University. The event celebrated the success of its Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects where the Priory REACH research project poster was showcased.

PDA encourages members to stand up for sitting down

On Tuesday 4 June, the PDA held an online event to launch the PDA Ability Network’s new campaign, ‘Standing Up for Sitting Down’. The campaign aims to raise awareness of disability discrimination and calls on employers to make appropriate and ongoing reasonable adjustments.

PDA Hospital Rep joins STUC Black Workers’ Committee
Sat 29th June 2024
On Thursday 13 June 2024, PDA member and NHS Fife Workplace Rep, Sade Abiola was informed of her successful nomination to be co-opted on to the STUC Black Workers’ Committee. She had won the support of a majority of the committee in a vote against several other nominees from our sister Scottish trade unions, to fill the recently vacated women’s seat.

BMA’s legal action over the term ‘medical professionals’ and implications for pharmacists

The British Medical Association (BMA) has launched legal action against the General Medical Council (GMC) in a bid to stop the ‘dangerous blurring of the lines’ between highly skilled and trained doctors and MAPs (medical associate professions).

PDA’s advice to members on pharmacy technicians and PGDs

The amendments to the Human Medicines Regulations, permitting pharmacy technicians (PTs) to supply and administer medicines under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) in England, Scotland, and Wales came into effect on 26 June 2024.
