The powerful benefits of PDA membership are delivered through a combination of services.

  1. Defence Association membership provides a wide and comprehensive range of both reactive and proactive member benefits.
  2. PDA Union membership enables PDA’s union officials to have statutory access to workplace conflicts in situations where employers could otherwise prevent members from being supported and accompanied.
  3. A solid contractual insurance policy which provides Professional Indemnity and Legal Defence Costs insurance. The insurance placed with Mission Underwriting UK ltd t/a Altea Insurance by the Pharmacy Insurance Agency Ltd (PIA) who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Although around 85% of the defence episodes provided by The PDA to members are not funded by insurance, it is essential to the service provided by the PDA as it provides substantial financial capability to enable funding of the defence of members who may face expensive GPhC hearings, employment disputes, criminal proceedings and, if needs be, to settle compensation claims made against them right up to £10 million pounds per member (when such a limit is chosen by members).

This combination of Defence Association, union and insurance contract provides a formidable base upon which to build a comprehensive defence service for members. The PDA is a not for profit organisation and these benefits are funded by membership subscriptions.
